Nice blog James, I think you are right on with your assessment. I would maybe flip flop Samuelson and Doan making the second line Gagner with Domi and Doan.

Looks like you forgot Lucas Lessio. I think either him or Samuelsson makes the team but not both. I enjoy your blog, thanks!

Thanks for the kind words.
Yeah, that could work. Honestly, I was only like half doing the lines. I mean, I thought about it a bit, but more or less I was just trying to decide who i'd put on the roster.

One of my biggest fears about this season is that they'll skate Doan and Vermette the most. I think that those two guys are great but I don't want to see Vermette skaing twenty minutes /game when Gagner and Hanzal need to have that ice time.

Thats how I see things, anyways. No guarantee the coach agrees.

I got him in there. About halfway down I talk about how he made the team last year and played three games before being sent down. Certainly he could make it, and like you say, probably at the expense of Samuelson.

Big caveat here: I don't get to see much of these guys before they start airing games on TV, so I am only going on my gut, what I know, read, have seen before etc. If a guy comes into training camp and turns everyone's head, I'm not gonna know until after the fact.

If Lessio, or anyone else for that matter, has a strong camp, they could force the team to make some hard decisions. Consider this blog a look at the roster, and a weighing of potential vs readiness. I figure i'd rather be wrong and try to stick to reality rather than just take a random dude and "guess" he'll have a strong camp.

Hopefully that makes sense. I can clarify if it doesn't.

I Think once you slot Gagner and Domi into the 2nd line, and Hanzal into the first, I'd bet it moves Doan and Vermette into 3rd line duties.
I think this lineup has a lot of potential to move players up and down the lines without hindering the chemistry too much. The vet presence should be a nice compliment to all the youth coming up.
Once this team gels, it could really be one that opens some eyes

Good analysis James. The only roster spot I disagree with is McMillan. He's on a 2 way contract , so he'll probably go down to the AHL - leaving a spot for Crombeen. They'll keep BJ as an energy guy/enforcer similar to what Biz used to bring to the table.

After tonight's game , I see both Domi and Samuellson making the team, but lineup wise, you'll probably see Domi skate with Hanzal or Vermette. Size wise and defensively , Gagne and Domi could have a rough time together in their own zone. I see:

Erat-Gagne-Boeds
Domi- Hanzal-Samuelsson
Korpi-Vermette-Doan
Chip-Vitale-Moss

Klink and Crombeen as extras

Yeah that's solid. Like I said, I wasn't totally thinking the lines through, just trying to pick 14 forwards. I think Crombeen over Macmillan is a huge error though. Screw putting any kind of enforcer out there. The only reason to keep Crombeen around is if you have a situation where MacMillan is not getting ice time and sitting in the press box, then its better to send him down and let Crombeen sit.
